My neighbour Marge has just been telling me she has a big family celebration dinner planned for today, as it’s Father’s Day. She said that seated round the dinner table will be one grandfather, two fathers and three sons, together with each of their wives.
She then showed me the table that was already laid in preparation. She had set it beautifully, with ornate napkins, sparkling crystal glassware and a magnificent centrepiece of fresh flowers. But something was wrong….
“Hold on, Marge,” I said, “you only have six places set. Where are the other guests going to eat?” She laughed, and explained why she had only set the table for six. Can you work out the reason?
